Mitigation Measures and The Heads of Planners

This installation explored the proposed M74 motorway extension in Glasgow’s south inner city. A photographic inventory of the compulsory purchase order sites for the road project was undertaken, creating a taxonomy of buildings and sites, soon to be raised to the ground to make way for this controversial piece of infrastructure. This was exhibited in a shipping container near the route of the proposed motorway.

A second installation exploring the proposed M74 motorway extension in Glasgow’s south inner city re-appropriated archival audio promotional material, alongside a partially masked aerial photograph of the proposed route of the motorway extension. The mapping challenged the traditional nature of aerial photography to present coherent and objective views, and forced the visitor to actively engage with and decipher the codes of the map.
